OK, I distorted the Freddie image on the right to match the Ripper one. But it's not because I don't have a Mac. It's because I don't care. Not that anyone needs to know this, but among the many Google Alerts I have created to fill my inbox is a "Freddie Mercury" Alert. I also have one for "Brian May," "Roger Taylor" and, just in case someone is fascinated with who wrote the track "Football Fight" on the
Flash Gordon soundtrack, "John Deacon." So there, you all know about it. Get over it.
Today my "Freddie Mercury" Google Alerts comprise mainly mentions of a hypothetical image of Jack the Ripper, the man who terrorized London in th 1880s. The image, issued by Scotland Yard
and mentioned in this BBC report, bears a striking resemblance to the late Queen frontman, in that he has high cheekbones and dark hair and eyes. And, oh yeah, a honkingly large Chelsea clone duster 'stache.
Most of the mentions are from blogs that originate in the United Kingdom, of course.
Radar magazine jumped on the bandwagon.
And so am I. It's a kind of web meme!

UPDATE: Even Brian "Is God" May
has gotten in on the act, pointing out the semi-canny resemblance.]
